My background is principally in public art: permanent site specific commissions for sculptures, or integrated work in public spaces. I often work collaboratively with other artists, landscape architects and other design professionals. My instinct is that of a carver - revealing forms inspired by nature, especially taken from microscopic scales.
The Compton Skyline Project grew from a simple idea - use the roof to make an artwork. The catalyst was the Arts Commission scheme, where proposals were invited on a post card. I loved the directness and simplicity of that approach. As soon as I sketched down the 100 words I knew this project would have a life of its own.
I have been working with students at Varndean College, toddlers at Playstation Nursery and the residents of Compton Road.
