Miriam King - dance for film

My background is as a visual artist working in the media of performance, Butoh inspired dance for camera and non-narrative film. Much of my work is site-specific and inspired by place, atmosphere or dreams.

For the project I have created six bold, atmospheric and sensitive portraits of residents of different ages. Sometimes nearly still, but all six in perpetual motion. Sometimes seperate, at other times together, each conceal and reveal a special object.

I like to make the invisible visible. Something exists, a feeling, an emotion, idea or concept and I endeavour to bring form and expression to it. My work is a communication, a connection to people on an unspoken level, an exploration of the unseen.

Often I begin the work from an "island" of isolation, where I / we are separate and apart, with a need to be "met". Through the work a meeting is made, a joining.
